Keep your Set a Watch cloth mat looking great with these simple cleaning and care steps. Learn how to spot clean, store, and maintain your game mat.
Quick Answer
Clean your Set a Watch cloth mat by spot cleaning with a mild soap and water solution. Avoid machine washing or soaking. Let it air dry completely before rolling it up for storage.
Why Proper Care Matters for Your Cloth Mat
The Set a Watch: Cloth Mat is a fabric play surface designed to sit alongside the camp board and represent the Creature Line. Unlike neoprene mats, cloth is more absorbent and can stain or warp if not handled correctly. Regular gentle cleaning keeps the mat looking fresh and prevents dirt from transferring to your game components.
Because the mat measures 9 by 24 inches and is meant to roll out flat, storing it improperly can lead to creases or fraying. A few minutes of care after each game session will extend its life significantly.
Step-by-Step Cleaning and Care Routine
- Spot Clean Immediately After Use: Dampen a soft cloth with cool water and a drop of mild dish soap. Gently blot any marks or spills on the mat. Do not rub, as this can push the stain deeper into the fabric fibers. Checkpoint: If the stain remains, repeat with a fresh cloth. Avoid using bleach or harsh chemicals.
- Air Dry Flat: Lay the mat flat on a clean towel or drying rack away from direct sunlight or heat sources. Let it dry completely, which usually takes a few hours. Do not wring or twist the mat. Common mistake: Rolling up a damp mat can cause mildew and odors. Always confirm the mat is fully dry before storing.
- Roll, Don't Fold: Once dry, roll the mat loosely with the printed side facing outward. Store it in a cool, dry place. Avoid folding, which creates permanent creases that can affect how the mat lies flat during play. Next step: If the mat develops light creases, roll it in the opposite direction for a day before your next game session.
